Do I need an MBA?Probably the most often asked question I receive. And my answer is almost always an resounding, NO! Too simple....? My no stems from a belief in experience. Remember, I come from the business side. I worked at McKesson, and I talk with and read articles from executives from GE, Siemens, Phillips, Astra-Zeneca, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Merck and others regularly, and this is the rub - would you want your appendix removed by someone who just graduated from medical school? Then what level of confidence is conveyed by a degree backed up by little or no real world practice? There are exceptions, such as new MD/DO grads wanting to pursue a business career - then it may make sense. If you want to practice, law, then you must have a law degree, and other professions where a degree is a prerequisite. My recommendation is to ask yourself these questions:
If you answer "no" to the majority of these questions, then another degree probably isn't necessary. However, if you believe you're lacking in some critical information, then consider where and how can you get that information...? Can you take a community college course (I usually recommend auditing the course), can you simple buy a couple of texts? Options other an a degree program do exist. You've already studied long and hard, too often further education is not only not necessary, but it only delays your career transition
