Whether you're considering mid-career change, career change after 40, career change after 50, or you're just out of medical school or residency - you have options.
Consider these broad categories of non clinical careers.
With those critical elements in place, career transition success is based on an accurate diagnosis, a sound plan, and effective implementation. I'll conduct your diagnosis, develop your plan and guide your implementation. Although I find every career transition unique, I've categorized some of the most frequent paths or outcomes - just food for thought. You may feel you fit one of these or, together, we may develop an entirely new category.
Which is the right path for you?
Entrepreneurship • Being independent-minded souls, many physicians fit well into the entrepreneurial role. Most of our client-entrepreneurs rely on their clinical backgrounds and the intellectual capital they can bring to bear on non-clinical situations as consultants or subject matter experts, while others find a composite link between their clinical knowledge and a true life-passion.
Business or Organizational Leadership • Business and organizational leadership opportunities are the right fit for clients with strong work motivations and a desire to be a part of a work team. Whether project or product focused, it's often more the "medical/physician decision-making paradigm" that makes the match than clinical knowledge. Others find themselves in liaison roles as the physician expert interfacing with colleagues and clients.
Health Policy • Increasingly physicians are realizing that few individual or organizations really represent them and what they're experiencing in practice. As such more and more clients are seeking opportunities to directly influence health policy and practice. Whether through the political process or through groups and organizations involved in drafting policy positions, most find a welcoming environment eager to hear what the "doctor has to say."
Giving Back... • Many, many physicians say to me, "I'd like to do something to "give back" to the community, the profession, to society. It's a noble desire and one third_Evolution can help you fulfill. Opportunities exist with mission-driven organizations, and board or committee appointments often abound for "physician experts" willing to offer their expertise and guidance. Sometimes the giving back takes on a structured secondary role to a primary vocation. Regardless, if "social responsibility" is your prime motivator, we'll help you fulfill your personal objectives.
Media/Corporate Spokesperson • You see them on the evening news, on commercials for pharmaceutical and health-related products and you hear them at conventions, meetings and seminars - physician experts are emerging as a new career path. If you're interested in either reporting the news or speaking to groups interested in healthcare topics and issues, physicians have never been in greater demand.
