Conventional Wisdom for the NonClinical Physician

Over the years I've both heard and said some things that have caused me to think to myself... that's pretty good. Write that down. Well, I have, and here are a few of my thoughts, and thoughts I've heard others utter that you should find helpful.

  1. Never underestimate the value of “Doctor”
  2. Most markets have plenty of room for expansion
  3. Problem solving is your greatest asset
  4. Problem solving is supply driven
  5. Every problem wants to be solved
  6. The ball is always in your court
  7. Always act like you’ve been there before
  8. Have a focus, even if it’s the wrong focus.
  9. You never get a second chance to make a first impression.
  10. Never over-estimate the knowledge of your audience
  11. Your Stump Speech is the answer to almost every question
  12. “I understand,” is the answer to the rest
  13. Never underestimate the power of a good headline…
  14. Never turn down anything but a job offer
  15. The hardest person to sell to is you.
  16. Deconstruct, deconstruct, deconstruct your interests, your skills and your passions.
  17. The more interest you express in others, the more they will be interested in you.
  18. Never believe your own press.
  19. Seize the room with this simple phrase...if you were my patient...
  20. It is always easier to edit than to author.
  21. Every conversation is sales, networking and research.
  22. Every place is a “small place.” True
  23. Every place is very unique. Not True
  24. Ask people how they do their jobs and they will tell you how to do yours.
  25. Never do nothing. But If you do, do it intentionally.
  26. No, ”Everybody doesn’t.”
  27. Tasks are easy, Fit is hard
  28. Form follows finance.
  29. Never underestimate the influence of the people you meet.
  30. Never qualify an apology.
